How To Choose A Dentist In My Area

Deciding on which dentist to use can be a very difficult decision. There are so many and it is hard to tell which ones are good. There is a dentist in my area that has been doing dental work for ever 20 years and that is one way I know that he is a good dentist. You want to find a dentist with plenty of experience. Now days, because there are so many dentists, many dentist will try and specialize in only a few kinds of treatments. This only makes it harder for those seeking dental assistance to find the right dentist.

When I’m trying to find a dentist in my area that will meet my needs, I always consider the following things:

1. Where is this dentist’s office located? If the office is far away or has limited parking, then this is something that might prevent me from visiting him or her as often as I should. Also, some offices can be located in areas that you might not feel completely safe at. You should always consider where you have to go to see your dentist when selecting one. [...]

Why You Should Cleanse Your Colon

Most people are unaware of how important their colon is to their health. As a result, they do not make having a healthy colon a priority. The American diet has spread across the world and with it a plague of illness. It is a high fat, high sugar, low fiber diet that lacks nutrition. It can be directly linked to adult diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and colon related illnesses amongst other health issues. Countries that rarely saw these problems are seeing a dramatic increase in them. The common factor is the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.; and sad, it is). [...]

Self Help for Panic-Anxiety: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You

Most people dealing with panic-anxiety tend to turn to the medical community first, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. It is generally accepted that some anxiety symptoms can be the result of a physical problem with the body — abnormal thyroid activity is one obvious example.

But the vast majority of anxiety and panic problems are not medical “conditions” caused by a physical ailment. They are emotional problems caused by poor “thinking habits.” [...]

Smoking Habit: Physical Or Mental?

Kicking the smoking habit is known to be one of the hardest things to do. The addiction can be so overwhelming to so many people that they feel like they will be chained to smoking forever. And now more than ever, pharmaceutical companies charge in to the rescue on our TV screens, in our magazines and on our radios touting the new wonder patches, pills and inhalers that will supposedly make kicking the habit as easy as turning off a light switch.

But why is it that these drugs fail 95% of the time in getting smokers to quit for one year? Is it really nicotine that makes it so hard to quit smoking or is it the powerful beliefs of the mind? Nicotine is completely gone from the bloodstream in 72 hours from the last cigarette. But this is when the cravings become the strongest and this is the smokers first real challenge to over come a real physical desire. But the physical cravings gradually go away and studies have shown that after 30-45 days, the addiction is all psychological. And this is where most smokers who want to quit fail. With the physical cravings being so short-lived and being such a small part of failing, Nicotine Replacement Therapy or NRT only prolongs the physical addiction which is gone soon anyway but does nothing for the stronger phsychological pull that the smoker will eventually have to face anyway. The Link Between Breastfeeding And Overweight Children

The number of overweight children, adolescents and adults is rising markedly. Obesity in children and adolescents predicts obesity in adult life, it predicts morbidity and mortality decades later, it is associated with cardiovascular risk factors, orthopaedic conditions and lower self-esteem and once present it is hard to treat. Preventing obesity is therefore of primary concern.

Nursing mothers who breastfeed for longer amounts of time may be helping their babies avoid weight troubles later in life, according to research. [...]

Fat On Your Hips and Bottom is Actually Healthy

A type of fat that accumulates around the hips and bottom may actually offer some protection against diabetes, U.S. researchers said on Tuesday.

They said subcutaneous fat, or fat that collects under the skin, helped to improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin, which regulates blood sugar.

Mice that got transplants of this type of fat deep into their abdomens lost weight and their fat cells shrank, even though they made no changes in their diet or activity levels. [...]

Long Term Health Resources Online

There is a multitude of long-term health resources online and people depend on this type of information to keep informed about factors that are crucial when making life-changing decisions. Some families rely on medical journals found through internet medical libraries to explain medical conditions. The information clarifies points that make commitment of loved ones to long-term care facilities as the only option left after a loved one has displayed uncontrollable rages and has become a threat to sustaining life if left to their own resources.

Families find the long-term health resources online to be a discreet method of finding information on conditions that are very sensitive and personal in nature. For anybody that is associated with the long-term committal process of a family member, the long-term health resources provide essential information that will let them know how the family member will receive treatments and the expected outcome of those treatments. Health resources online will allow families to obtain treatment costs at various facilities and learn which insurance plans are accepted. [...]

Has Outpatient Surgery Become A Drive Thru Service?

Ah, the advances of medicine.

I recently spoke with a friend of mine that was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy a few days ago and I’d made plans to visit her in the hospital and provide care for her at her home. Imagine my surprise when she informed me that her hospital stay would consist of one night and that she planned to be up and about a few days after the surgery. She didn’t plan to return to work for 4-6 weeks but told me that her surgeon’s mother had recently undergone the exact same surgery and a few days later was working in her garden!

I had a similar experience last year. I had gallstones that were causing excruciating abdominal pain. As a result my doctor recommended gallbladder removal surgery. Do you know that as recent as 5 years ago this would have consisted of a 5″ to 8″ vertical incision from my ribs to my waist, 3-5 days in the hospital, and several weeks of recovery? Contrast that to modern day laparoscopic gallbladder surgery: [...]

Manufacturers of Type 2 Diabetes Prescription Drug Receive FDA Warning For Failure to Report Avandia

GlaxoSmithKline, makers of the type 2 diabetes prescription drug known as Avandia, recently received warnings from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after the company withheld post-marketing research information on Avandia.

Avandia, also known as its generic name rosiglitazone maleate, is an oral medication used to control an individual’s blood sugar level as well as continue to regulate sugar levels. Avandia was once reportedly the best-selling diabetic drug around the world, however, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine reported results from clinical trials of the drug, which found Avandia to have severe side effects on individuals both with a history of heart disease and without. [...]

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: A Personal Story

Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD) come in various forms but most focus on cleanliness to a degree. This disorder has always fascinated me because for a period of time I feared that I had the disorder.

After learning more about the disorder I found that I had some traits that are similar in nature to those of OCD but I do not suffer from it. In order to be diagnosed with the disorder the obsessions and compulsions must impact on the daily life and functioning of the sufferer. [...]
